Evark's News

I'm pretty bad at life updates.  Here's a photo I took 5 weeks ago during my first day at my new job.  Life is good.  Hope your life is good as well.  I should probably record some new music or participate in the forums more.  It'd be nice to reconnect with NG.  Soon.

I haven't posted an update since I left for school. Here's my life update:

- Pico Day at NG was great last weekend. I met a ton of great new people and it was awesome to see a bunch of old friends.

- I'm graduating with my Bachelor's degree in a week. This has been a long time coming.

- May 19, I leave to cross-country road trip and assist a friend with her move to Colorado. If you're in Ithaca, Niagra Falls, Toronto, Cleveland, St. Louis, Kansas City, or Denver: get at me and let's chill while I'm there.

- I don't know what I'm going to do after I graduate. Job hunt is gonna pick up pretty seriously this week. I MAY get hired by my University to do a full-time version of what I do for work right now, but that is very much up in the air.

- Newgrounds on the iPhone really sucks for writing up these posts. Hitting 'return' puts in the line break character, but also sticks your cursor at the start of the text box.

Been practicing this one for a while now, finally got around to recording it in front of the fire at my parent's house the night before I had to pack up and drive back out to Amherst (where I'm attending university full-time to FINALLY finish my damn bachelor's degree).

I've actually learned quite a few songs between this and the last one I recorded and uploaded, and still have a few more yet that I could conceivably record and toss up on here, the Audio Portal update has got me excited about sharing with Newgrounds once again.

Feedback is, as always, welcomed and appreciated.

I've got a new song recorded that I've been working on. More in the pipeline, I'm going to try to keep up a once a month recording thing. Listen, leave reviews, and enjoy.

It's here. I think it's great. Some bugs I noticed were already smoothed out between the second and third attempt at bringing the site fully online. And it seems to run snappier and without as many ERR324 pages.

Paid time off is awesome. I went to El Paso for vacation. Cool things:
- Saw Carlsbad Caverns, which is one of the largest cavern systems in the western hemisphere. There is a developed part that goes 800 feet underground, including a 1.2 mile path surrounding the main chamber, then further miles of wild caves accessible through the non-public 90-foot drop. They are STILL discovering new chambers in the caverns today.
- Hopped the border to Juarez for an evening of delicious, authentic Mexican food, a driving tour of the downtown and outskirts area, and some great shopping. It was fascinating, all the residential neighborhoods have huge iron fences and are enclosed. Residents have keys to drive in to the neighborhoods, and all yardage is located behind houses. Each block is kinda like a mini-fort. Oh, and I wasn't murdered horrifically as everyone (hoped) expected. TAKE THAT, FUCKERS.
- Mesilla, a small neighborhood just outside of Las Cruces where Billy the Kid was hanged. Visited there and saw the sights, including several historic buildings and the slightly creepy Billy the Kid "museum" (AKA: gift shop with an animatronic Billy the Kid suggesting you put coins in his slot to hear more about his fascinating story. Needless to say, I did not put coins in the slot).
- Horchata... it's been too long since I tasted you, oh sweet, sweet nectar.
- Thunderbird. I didn't include a picture, but it's clearly depicted in the first google image result. It's a natural clay deposit on the west side of the Franklin Mountain Range that El Paso is built around that looks like a thunderbird in the mountains. Cool.
- Pictured below: the tenacity of the life surrounding the drive up to Carlsbad Caverns. Even though the landscape has been horribly marred by fire as of last June, plant life prevails.

Just got back from my 10-day vacation

I'm getting pretty bad about updating the ol' userpage. Here're some life updates:
- Submitted my resume to one of my good friends for forwarding to his boss. If I get the job, I'll get a substantial pay raise and will perhaps live comfortably!
- Just bought a motorcycle. After an exhaustive 4-month craigslist trolling effort, I looked at and bought a 1982 Suzuki GS1100L. Literally the only problem with it is a ding on the gas tank and it needs a good shining. Ready for the price: $700. (pictured below)
- Got a book of Paul Simon arranged songs for my birthday (I'm 25 now... horray!). Currently learning 'Hearts and Bones' which many consider to be one of his finest arrangements. It's a beautiful song, slowly but surely I will master it.
- I have been eating almost exclusively vegetarian (pescatarian, actually... I eat fish but not often) for the past 2 months. I feel great and I'm pretty sure I've lost weight. Next step is hitting the gym. You'd be surprised how much you don't give a fuck about eating meat once you force yourself to stick to a schedule of not eating it. Plus, you never get that over-full feeling I always used to get constantly eating meat.

So anyway, even though the advantage of picking up a bike just after the season ends is a low price... it's gonna be sucky knowing this thing is sitting in the garage waiting for me all freakin' winter.

EDIT: I just put it on the road today. So even though the registration will expire in two weeks, at least I'll be able to drive it home and enjoy some cold-weather riding until it snows.
