So... my account got accessed 6 days ago

These faggots had access to every piece of sensitive financial information I've ever had over the 6 most important years of my life and they don't touch any of it.

Nope, not one piece of sensitive information. All that they cared about was that they gain access to my online identity on this site in order to give the administrators and my fellow moderators somewhat of a headache. So, I don't know what kind of point they're trying to make with their efforts to 'bring NG to its knees' or whatever the fuck, but the reflection on them is blinding.

So, to bring whoever checks this page up to speed:
- My password was not easily guessed, it was a strong password containing alphanumerics including capital letters and not based on a common phrase.
- The cretins got my secondary email address (which also happens to be my MSN) because I've posted it here before.
---> The address had my private email as its secondary account
---> They correctly guessed the ancient security question attached
---> They correctly figured that the primary/secondary relationship was vice-versa for my private gmail account
---> Password recovery gets them access to my gmail
---> Password recovery gets them access to my NG account
---> "Havoc" wreaked.

Anyway, I'd like to apologize to all involved in the headache caused. Sure, it's not my fault, but I do bear the responsibility for my account's actions, regardless of circumstance. Sorry.

Lesson to learn here: don't gloss over the important of removing your ancient secondary email from your primary account when updating your online security.

It's ultimately up to Wade. I have been moderating the longest out of all the moderators whose accounts were compromised, though the ulterior edge to that blade is that I probably should've recognized the vulnerability before it was exploited.

I mean, I'd be happy to return. I think Wade's hesitation (if any... I don't actually know if he's opposed to me being remodded) would be whether an event like this has any likelihood of happening again. If he's enough faith that it won't, then there's no obstacle. I believe it's the same for the other moderators, though it looks like Dry-Ice and mighty potato don't even have their accounts back yet.

As mixed as I know some of the attitudes you personally around the BBS have been in the past, it's a shame to see you demodded as a result of this thing. As always, I'm hoping that you will have the chance some time to get it back. I don't know how Wade ultimately feels about these things, but you never know. On another note, I'm finding it increasingly funny (see depressing) to see people thinking there's some sort of "political message" tied to things whenever this happens. As much I don't like some of the moderating on the BBS, breaking into people's accounts is hardly about setting things straight or whatever. It's about mischief, and nothing else. You already know that I'm sure, but I felt like saying it out of what I've read here and elsewhere.

But yea... in the scheme of things, BBS posts aren't that important. If the administrators were so inclined, they could restore all the posts lost through this, and truly make the event as if it never occurred, but they're just as aware that the lost posts aren't that important.

And even though I wish to believe otherwise, any individual moderator isn't that important either. There're legions of fans out there responsible enough to entrust limited care of small aspects of the site to. Just... uh, so used to moderating by now that not having the tools has me feeling like a fish outta water on the BBS.
