Evark

May your milieu grow to ubiquity

Posted by Evark Mar. 20, 2009 @ 12:22 AM EDT

Little do you guys know that dictionary.com pays me to post here.

Uh... anyway. I was bored so I recorded one of my favorite Something Corporate songs. The real version, which doesn't have my shitty squawking, is by SOMETHING CORPORATE, not any of that Jack's Mannequin bullshit that I can only seem to find on youtube. It's called "She Paints me Blue."

Oh, and since I'm apparently dedicating this update purely to music-related nonsense, I CAN PLAY GUITAR NOW! Not well by any stretch, but I have an effective pacing and command of every open position chord. Next step: unlearn my fingers' stupidity with barre chords while continuing to improve my strumming. After that: add my singing into the mix and become the bane of everyone's existence by being yet another mediocre guitar covering college kid.

----

Update: I liked those patterned pointy things in my signature, so I went and made something over the top for my banner with 'em. First person to post the quote wins nothing.

Mar. 20, 2009 | 12:35 AM Evark responds:

I'm not submitting to the Audio Portal unless I have a polished, original piece to offer complete with music to rape with my vocals.

Well... ok maybe I will. Later though. When you least suspect.

Gotta go with the domain that nabbed the corresponding English word. That song... odd. I'll give it another listen later. As it is, I have to comply with 7Cs's request that I replace a lyric with 'velociraptor' in a cover.

Not bad singing, sir. If you want any tips with guitar, let me know. Don't judge me by my Newgrounds uploads, I haven't put anything up in ages.

Apr. 1, 2009 | 2:40 PM Evark responds:

Hey I can respond to comments now!

Thanks, I've got a pretty good handle on researching proper technique and the like. I think my major hurdle right now is comfort with barre chords. I can't shift from an open-position chord to a barre... which may or may not be because I'm most comfortable with a really poor thumb placement for the open-position chords.

Apr. 1, 2009 | 2:58 AM RedStripedd says:

I doubt you know every open chord.

There are many, many different ones. Like, can you play a G minor 11?

Hey, I can't,

Apr. 1, 2009 | 2:45 PM Evark responds:

I just started playing 6 months ago, basically. But, the problem isn't ability to PLAY the notes, it's the ability to shift comfortably and correctly between any note to any note. I have a great theory book that explains how every chord is named, so I'm kinda working my way from beginner toward expert play-wise, and then backwards from expert to beginner theory-wise.

I THINK I can play what you're talking about, but I was referring to the COMMON open position chords (G, C, A, D, E, F, and all the minors, sus, dom, etc. therein). If my fingers are in the first four frets and not a barre, I can get there and play it comfortably.

Apr. 8, 2009 | 4:28 AM Infinite-one says:

You don't play anything else?

Apr. 8, 2009 | 12:08 PM Evark responds:

I quit playing trumpet and band altogether in 7th grade. We were required to learn the 'recorder' (picture a super cheap plastic flute) in elementary school.

What's awful is I actually got this guitar in 8th grade but never took any lessons or learned how to use it. I could be so much further.

Apr. 16, 2009 | 10:14 PM Evark responds:

Have all you want.

Apr. 16, 2009 | 10:18 PM Evark responds:

Oh, I don't know. What can you spare?

Apr. 16, 2009 | 10:18 PM WATCHurFLAG says:

Watch was hanging out on the forums just wasting time. Evark was there doing his moderation thing that he always does.

Apr. 16, 2009 | 10:18 PM WATCHurFLAG says:

Then a little noob came along. He started talking crap and posting shit threads.

Apr. 16, 2009 | 10:19 PM WATCHurFLAG says:

Watch Flammed the hell out of the N00b and Evark didn't like it.

Apr. 16, 2009 | 10:20 PM WATCHurFLAG says:

Evark wielded his almighty banstick the glows in the dark and that all moderators have specially made by a guy that lives in Kenya that speaks a language only the moderators on Newgrounds know.

Apr. 16, 2009 | 10:21 PM WATCHurFLAG says:

Watch begged for forgiveness from the mod. With the puppy dog eyes and sad look on his face.

Apr. 16, 2009 | 10:23 PM WATCHurFLAG says:

Then Evark gave Watch a 30 day ban. Evark laughed hard that night as he went to sleep. but the rage burned in Watch's heart.

Apr. 16, 2009 | 10:25 PM WATCHurFLAG says:

Watch was furious and counted the days on the calendar as he planed. He passed the time by making sigs and banners. But he planned...

Apr. 16, 2009 | 10:26 PM WATCHurFLAG says:

The almighty Flag took his ban, but it was soon over. After weeks of waiting he was back. He was ready.

Apr. 16, 2009 | 10:31 PM WATCHurFLAG says:

Watch's plan was simple. Get Evark where he wanted him. He was going to take Evarks down. Watch rallied the users against Evark and all the Mods. Of course the Mods stuck together like glue. The users remained firm. Then wade came up with a bargin. He would moderate the moderators. The users agreed. However the whole thing was staged. Another one of Wades jokes. He did nothing and the mods punished the users for their acts of wrongdoing worse then they ever had.

Apr. 16, 2009 | 10:36 PM WATCHurFLAG says:

Users were afraid. They wandered Newgrounds with a hopelessness feeling. "Will order be restored one day." some thought. Than that day came. Even being the harsh mod he was Evark had good in him. Evark was really a fair mod and was really good. Instead of Banning horribly during this time he started to mod well. When Evark banned someone he had a reasons. Other mods followed in the great footsteps of Evark. The golden age of mod had begun. Thanks to Evark. Watch really never got his revenge, but he learned that mods are fair. Evark was no exception.

Apr. 18, 2009 | 4:15 PM tigerkitty says:

The learning guitar, growing your hair out, listen to my rad voice phase.

I'm only teasing, don't worry. I think it's great you're adding to the "cool things I can do" selection. Always good talents to have at parties and for general entertainment of self and others.

Apr. 18, 2009 | 9:03 PM Evark responds:

Hah, yea the guitar playing is definitely only for me at this point. Gotta be honest and say that the hair growing thing is really just laziness. When it hits unacceptably unruly I get it cut.

I like to keep active when it comes to hobbies. The expression "jack of all trades, master of none" comes to mind.

Apr. 21, 2009 | 3:24 AM Tancrisism says:

I would recommend learning this song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiA1XB XAE6U

It will take a long fucking time (it took me about three weeks to learn about two years ago, and it took me about 6 months to a year to master) but it teaches you so much about the guitar.

Apr. 21, 2009 | 6:29 PM Evark responds:

That's some talent.

I couldn't play that on my guitar, it's nylon strung and the neck's slightly warped so the string height makes hammer ons and pull offs tough, not to mention the harmonics being a little off. All that aside, I am still having trouble transitioning with barres. Can't quite play a lot of "easy" music I'm looking at right now, though I'll keep that song in mind.
